Introduction to Khaptad National Park

Established in 1984, Khaptad National Park sprawls across four districts: Bajhang, Bajura, Accham, and Doti, covering 225 square kilometers of lush forests, riveting rivers, and verdant pastures. Khaptad is primarily named after Khaptad Baba, a renowned hermit and spiritual leader who spent around 50 years in this area meditating and studying herbs.

Flora and Fauna

When you step inside Khaptad National Park, you step into nature’s magnificent canvas painted with around 567 species of flora. You can find rhododendrons, fir, oak, chir pine, and hemlock trees in abundance. You’ll find yourself spellbound by the wildflowers that bloom in the wetlands and grasslands.

The park provides safe haven for about 23 mammals, 287 birds, and 23 amphibians and reptiles. If you’re lucky, you might cross paths with Himalayan black bears, leopards, wild dogs, or even musk deer. Bird watchers will be thrilled to spot birds like the Impeyan Pheasant (Nepal’s national bird), Peregrine Falcon, White-Rumped Vulture, and many more.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Khaptad National Park is from March to June and from October to November. During these times, the weather is pleasant, and the skies are clear, providing brilliant views of the surrounding landscapes.
